38 Weeks

I’m getting to the point where I’m really anxious and antsy to meet my Baby Boy. Any little ache or discomfort and I think that it might be the start of labor…but no, still here, on the couch, with my feet up, waiting…
I had a nice weekend of seeing my husband’s relatives for their annual Holiday get-together. It’s always nice to see the extended family and catch up with them. We then attended a fundraiser event on Saturday night for the parks committee in our town. It took place at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum mansion, once owned by George Griswold Frelinghuysen, NYC attorney and president of Ballantine Brewing Company, it is now a center for educational programs, horticulture and botanical literature. We actually had our engagement photos taken on the grounds of the mansion, but Saturday night was our first time actually stepping foot inside the mansion. It was a true beauty! Everything I love about older homes- the architecture, the detailing, the fireplaces…

I’m still working out here and there, although I’m so nervous about my water breaking at the gym…eek! I’m feeling pretty big lately so I have to be extra careful. I’m done coaching until sometime next year, and I hope to get a pre/post-natal certification to add to my fitness resume.

A good one I did last week at CrossFit was this EMOM (every minute on the minute) for 12 minutes:

14 front squats (35# barbell)

50 single unders (double unders make me nervous I’m going to pee myself!)

15 ring rows

I actually have really enjoyed doing ring rows throughout my pregnancy. I haven’t had to modify them and they make me feel strong!

I also went on a nice 30-minute walk around my neighborhood this weekend. The weather in NJ has been unbelievably nice and I’m taking full advantage.

That’s it for now…off to fold some laundry and keep my mind occupied!

It’s The Most Wonderful Time…

Today we hosted my husband’s sister and her family for an early Christmas celebration since we won’t see them on actual Christmas. I’m sure many of you also either hosted or attended Holiday parties… I just love this time of year! I do miss my family in South America though; that’s the bittersweet part. It was 2 years ago that I was there with them and my grandmother was still alive. Great memories that I’ll cherisfh forever πŸ˜”

Β Although we haven’t gotten a tree yet, I did manage to pull out a few decorations and cleaned the house a little bit to have our house look presentable. We’re in the process of having the house painted (almost done!) So it was great having some freshly painted rooms to hang out in.

Last week I felt a big change in my energy levels. I was practically in bed all week, feeling oh so tired. Only made it to CrossFit on Monday and did one at home workout on Wednesday…or was it Thursday? Pregnancy brain has hit me full-on by the way! I’m super forgetful and can’t do math anymore πŸ˜•

Β

I did manage to do a mini at home WOD today using my dumbbells. Check it out:

5 Rounds of

12 bicep curls

12 strict presses

30 sec wall sits

30 side bends

10 pulsing lunges (each leg)

15 air squats

It’s all about taking it easy at this point, nothing heavy and no brusque movements. I’m focusing on keeping my core engaged as usual. I’m very happy that I’ve managed to only gain a healthy amount of weight of just under 20 pounds. Although it seems like I’ve been wanting junk food the past few days πŸ™ˆ so maybe that number will creep up over the next couple of weeks. Oops!Β

Just a few more days of work this week and then I go on maternity leave. I’m hoping to post more often then.

Have a nice, relaxing Sunday!

I’m stent-free!

You may have read my past posts and already know about how I had a stent put in my ureter after a scary kidney infection while I was 19 weeks pregnant. It has been painful and uncomfortable and my OB and the urologist finally gave me their blessing to have it removed, which I did yesterday. It was supposed to stay in until post-partum, but it only got worse as baby started pushing (and kicking) down on my bladder more and more. I can’t wait to feel more normal again within the next day or so.

I’m just feeling so thankful to my husband and mom especially who have been super awesome over the past (almost) 3 months. Other family members and friends have been great too. I had to work from home, and even then I hardly left my couch. I’m really looking forward to going out for walks around my new neighborhood and enjoying the beautiful autumn weather. Maybe I’ll even be able to run a little bit too.

Rest has definitely been a priority the past week, which is fine. The body needs rest! Stay tuned to see how I do and the workouts I do going forward πŸ™‚

Sweat Pink

Today I received an email notifying me that I’m a Sweat Pink Ambassador. Sweat Pink is a community of inspirational, fitness-oriented women where connections and mutual support can blossom as we each strive to reach goals in health and fitness. I’m super excited!

So in my last post I mentioned that I was getting ready to go to a cousin’s birthday lunch…well, it turned out to be my surprise baby shower. It was such a fun, memorable day surrounded by some of the women that will definitely be playing a big part in Baby Hicky’s life. All the gifts we got were just so thoughtful and awesome. I had a hard time sleeping Sunday night thinking of how real everything feels. Baby will be here so soon!

Here’s a quick little at home WOD I’ll be doing tonight:

20 bicep curls

10 lateral raises

20 front squats

30 sec wall sit

30 sec plank

I might do 4 rounds of this but feel free to do more if you’re feeling up to it πŸ™‚

Happy Hump Day…or should I say #bumpday ?!

Xoxo,

Julia

30 Weeks

Happy Sunday! This little big bump is now 30 weeks-yay! It’s been a long week of working, learning and not a lot of working out- but that’s ok! My husband and I took a CPR class earlier in the week and yesterday we went to an all-day childbirth class at the hospital where I’ll be delivering Baby Hicky. They definitely helped in making me feel a little more reassured that I can do this πŸ™‚

I did make it to CrossFit on Wednesday and did the following WODs:

5 rounds of:

10 single arm DB snatches (15#)

100 meter row

Then after a break, 5 rounds of:

12 ring rows

12 box dips

10 back lunges (45#)

I’m now about to get ready to go celebrate my cousin’s birthday so I think I’ll take another day off from working out…or I might do a quick 10 minute circuit before I jump in the shower πŸ™‚

Have a wonderful Sunday πŸ™‚

Breakfast!

Preggo Godmother

Hi guys! I haven’t posted in a while so I wanted to say hi quickly and share my workout from yesterday πŸ™‚

I used my 8# dumbbells and did 3 rounds of:

20 squats

40 side bends

10 push presses

16 side lunges

15 deadlifts

I’m currently 29 weeks, peeing all the time and not getting much sleep. But this little guy has me soo in love, I don’t even mind πŸ™‚

This weekend I got to be Godmother to my best friend’s baby girl, Alexia. She was so good the whole time – didn’t fuss at all! I hope Baby Hicky is like that ! If you follow on Instagram you can check out some of the photos from the weekend.

I really need to get cracking with decorating my house. I’m loving Joss & Main for really beautiful and mostly affordable home goods. I just ordered rugs for my bedroom as well as a gorgeous chandelier print for above my bed. Can’t wait til they get here so I can share the photos.

Happy Tuesday!

About Time I found this

If you follow me on Instsgram, you know I looove my smoothies. I’ve been on the hunt for a while for a protein powder that wasn’t full of artificial ingredients and sweeteners and a bunch of…crap. Recently I came across About Time and they were kind enough to send me some of their products to try.

This morning I made a smoothie with their vanilla whey powder. I added berries, mango, almond milk and a little Greek yogurt. It was delicious!

I’m looking forward to trying out the rest of the products they carry- they even have Paleo snack bars!

I love that their products are gluten free, lactose free and non-GMO. And they have vegan options.

I have a 25% off coupon code for my readers who’d like to try it. Go to About Time and enter my code FASTINISTA25 at checkout. Did I mention they have a pumpkin flavor? Yum!

I’ll be heading out to CrossFit in a bit and modifying the WOD below:

I’ll be doing the rower instead of running, much, much lighter back squats, ball slams instead of wall balls, knee push-ups and much lighter OH walk.
What are guys having for breakfast this lovely Sunday morning? Any workout plans?

Bridesmaid Workout and More…

This past weekend was a busy, fun one celebrating the wedding of one of my long-time best friends. I didn’t do much working out but hey, walking around taking bridal party photos and doing some dancing definitely count as exercise πŸ˜‰

The bride looked so stunning…

The 3 of us <3  The bride and I

   Check out my cool ‘do!
Yesterday I was back at it and did a modified version of the WOD below. I did 35# thrusters and did my pregnant burpees. I knew I’d be hurting afterwards (due to my stent) but to me the rewards of doing a little physical activity outweighs the pain.

I’m 26 weeks now and I can’t believe that I have just 3 more months to go! Baby Room Decorating will officially start this weekend- I’ll be posting a before and after so be sure to check back!

Monday Mode

Happy Monday! I’m continuing my productive mode after getting a few important things accomplished this weekend. The hubby and I bought a car (2012 RAV4 Limited Edition), picked out and bought some paint for Baby Hicky’s room and visited the inlaws who gave us some stuff for the house. I got a lot of work done today so I’m feeling good!

Here’s a simple workout I did late last week that’s perfect for a mama-to-be:

10 lateral arm extensions (each arm)

15 dumbbell deadlifts

30 sec plank

40 side bends

Then without the dumbbells do:

10 leg kickbacks (each leg)

10 side leg lifts (each leg)

Repeat 3 times!

Tonight I’ll be doing Revie’s workout below. Have you guys seen her site? She’s the super cute owner of an all girls CrossFit gym in Australia, CrossFit Babes. She also happens to be pregnant right now so I’m following her workouts closely πŸ™‚

I hope my workouts are to your liking. I’m already thinking of starting a home gym for when baby is here and I want to work out more at home πŸ™‚

Here’s the latest belly pic. I love the bright yellow sports bra I had on. It’s a great color and the fabric is very comfortable. It’s by Albion Fit and I actually won it from a giveaway they hosted a little while ago. But hey, funny how you can still see some ab definition…hopefully this means I’ll whip myself back into shape quickly πŸ˜‰

Throwback to Puerto Rico

I was reminiscing on a fun trip to Puerto Rico that the hubby and I took (see some photos below) It was in early February, right after the Holidays. We escaped winter for a little bit and recharged our batteries. We enjoyed delicious food and drinks but also went for runs and used our hotel gym. It was a great way to kick off 2015 and the many extraordinary things that  have occurred this year.

Let me tell you about my workouts this week…yesterday, I was feeling good and relatively pain-free so when I saw overhead squats in the WOD I told myself I’d try them but with the lightest barbell.

It was a 15 AMRAP:

6 OHS (35#)

8 Push Presses (35#)

10 Preggo Burpees

I was able to do 8 full rounds with a couple of minutes to spare.

Tonight, I stayed home and did a quick 3 rounds with my 8# dumbbells:

20 biceps curls

25 squats

8 tricep extensions (each arm)

40 side bends

The workout above would be perfect for someone easing their way back to working out. Simple, but effective movements.

I hope to continue feeling better! Please wish me luck πŸ™‚
