First Post-natal WOD

It’s been 2 weeks + 1 day since I gave birth to my little Frankie (have you seen all his cute pictures on my Instagram?!? @juliafastinista) and this mama is ready to start getting back in shape! Although I have done little things here and there before yesterday, like push-ups off my couch, leg extensions and weight-less arm curls, I don’t consider them real workouts yet as I was only testing out what my body could handle. I did, after all, not only have a C-section, but I went through hours of labor and pushing prior to that.

LSIT

Doing L pull-ups last year…can’t wait to do these again soon!

So yesterday, while my son was napping, I did 3 rounds of:

20 Deadlifts

16 Bicep Curls

10 Push Presses

16 Side Bends

I used my 8-pound dumbbells as usual…

Ideally, I would love to be ready to do the CrossFit Open WODs next month and kill them, but… I won’t be too hard on myself if I have to do a lot of scaling back.

Please don’t think that just because I’m already working out 2 weeks post-partum, that you should be too. Everyone is different. The last thing you want is to get injured and have a big setback. Please be careful and always, always consult with your doctor first.

I just want to say that staying active has been a huuuge help in helping me bounce back. I fit in my skinny jeans just a week later. Now I’m almost pooch-free…just didn’t have time to take a photo.

Have a happy and healthy day! xoxo

It’s The Most Wonderful Time…

Today we hosted my husband’s sister and her family for an early Christmas celebration since we won’t see them on actual Christmas. I’m sure many of you also either hosted or attended Holiday parties… I just love this time of year! I do miss my family in South America though; that’s the bittersweet part. It was 2 years ago that I was there with them and my grandmother was still alive. Great memories that I’ll cherisfh forever 😔

Although we haven’t gotten a tree yet, I did manage to pull out a few decorations and cleaned the house a little bit to have our house look presentable. We’re in the process of having the house painted (almost done!) So it was great having some freshly painted rooms to hang out in.

Last week I felt a big change in my energy levels. I was practically in bed all week, feeling oh so tired. Only made it to CrossFit on Monday and did one at home workout on Wednesday…or was it Thursday? Pregnancy brain has hit me full-on by the way! I’m super forgetful and can’t do math anymore 😕

I did manage to do a mini at home WOD today using my dumbbells. Check it out:

5 Rounds of

12 bicep curls

12 strict presses

30 sec wall sits

30 side bends

10 pulsing lunges (each leg)

15 air squats

It’s all about taking it easy at this point, nothing heavy and no brusque movements. I’m focusing on keeping my core engaged as usual. I’m very happy that I’ve managed to only gain a healthy amount of weight of just under 20 pounds. Although it seems like I’ve been wanting junk food the past few days 🙈 so maybe that number will creep up over the next couple of weeks. Oops!

Just a few more days of work this week and then I go on maternity leave. I’m hoping to post more often then.

Have a nice, relaxing Sunday!

I’m stent-free!

You may have read my past posts and already know about how I had a stent put in my ureter after a scary kidney infection while I was 19 weeks pregnant. It has been painful and uncomfortable and my OB and the urologist finally gave me their blessing to have it removed, which I did yesterday. It was supposed to stay in until post-partum, but it only got worse as baby started pushing (and kicking) down on my bladder more and more. I can’t wait to feel more normal again within the next day or so.

I’m just feeling so thankful to my husband and mom especially who have been super awesome over the past (almost) 3 months. Other family members and friends have been great too. I had to work from home, and even then I hardly left my couch. I’m really looking forward to going out for walks around my new neighborhood and enjoying the beautiful autumn weather. Maybe I’ll even be able to run a little bit too.

Rest has definitely been a priority the past week, which is fine. The body needs rest! Stay tuned to see how I do and the workouts I do going forward 🙂

Xoxo

Sweat Pink

Today I received an email notifying me that I’m a Sweat Pink Ambassador. Sweat Pink is a community of inspirational, fitness-oriented women where connections and mutual support can blossom as we each strive to reach goals in health and fitness. I’m super excited!

So in my last post I mentioned that I was getting ready to go to a cousin’s birthday lunch…well, it turned out to be my surprise baby shower. It was such a fun, memorable day surrounded by some of the women that will definitely be playing a big part in Baby Hicky’s life. All the gifts we got were just so thoughtful and awesome. I had a hard time sleeping Sunday night thinking of how real everything feels. Baby will be here so soon!

Here’s a quick little at home WOD I’ll be doing tonight:

20 bicep curls

10 lateral raises

20 front squats

30 sec wall sit

30 sec plank

I might do 4 rounds of this but feel free to do more if you’re feeling up to it 🙂

Happy Hump Day…or should I say #bumpday ?!

Xoxo,

Julia

Preggo Godmother

Hi guys! I haven’t posted in a while so I wanted to say hi quickly and share my workout from yesterday 🙂

I used my 8# dumbbells and did 3 rounds of:

20 squats

40 side bends

10 push presses

16 side lunges

15 deadlifts

I’m currently 29 weeks, peeing all the time and not getting much sleep. But this little guy has me soo in love, I don’t even mind 🙂

This weekend I got to be Godmother to my best friend’s baby girl, Alexia. She was so good the whole time – didn’t fuss at all! I hope Baby Hicky is like that ! If you follow on Instagram you can check out some of the photos from the weekend.

I really need to get cracking with decorating my house. I’m loving Joss & Main for really beautiful and mostly affordable home goods. I just ordered rugs for my bedroom as well as a gorgeous chandelier print for above my bed. Can’t wait til they get here so I can share the photos.

Happy Tuesday!

FriYAY

Really glad that it’s Friday! The hubby is currently busy painting Baby’s room and I’m so so excited to see how it will turn out. I’ve been helping by doing a little online shopping… I still need to find the right curtains and a rug, but I think I’m on the right track.

Speaking of shopping, do you guys use Ebates? In the past year, I’ve gotten over $200 cash back by using their site every time I shop online. I love it. Basically you type in the name of the store, for example Reebok, it will show you how much cash back you get (currently 5%), and you go to their website through the Ebates site, shop, and then get money back. Click here if you’d like to sign up and start using it too. It really is greaaat.

I haven’t been working out as much this week because the pain increased a little bit :/ But here’s  a good one I did the other day using a Bosu ball- great for keeping your core strength.

Do 4 rounds of:

30 second side plank on floor, switch sides

30 second plank on Bosu

40 butt kickers on all fours

30 seated side bends

I’ll be at CrossFit this weekend- hopefully I’ll be able to get a WOD in on Sunday…

Bump update is below. I’m almost 27 weeks and up 11 pounds.

Bridesmaid Workout and More…

This past weekend was a busy, fun one celebrating the wedding of one of my long-time best friends. I didn’t do much working out but hey, walking around taking bridal party photos and doing some dancing definitely count as exercise 😉

The bride looked so stunning…

The 3 of us <3  The bride and I

   Check out my cool ‘do!
Yesterday I was back at it and did a modified version of the WOD below. I did 35# thrusters and did my pregnant burpees. I knew I’d be hurting afterwards (due to my stent) but to me the rewards of doing a little physical activity outweighs the pain.

I’m 26 weeks now and I can’t believe that I have just 3 more months to go! Baby Room Decorating will officially start this weekend- I’ll be posting a before and after so be sure to check back!

Throwback to Puerto Rico

I was reminiscing on a fun trip to Puerto Rico that the hubby and I took (see some photos below) It was in early February, right after the Holidays. We escaped winter for a little bit and recharged our batteries. We enjoyed delicious food and drinks but also went for runs and used our hotel gym. It was a great way to kick off 2015 and the many extraordinary things that  have occurred this year.

Let me tell you about my workouts this week…yesterday, I was feeling good and relatively pain-free so when I saw overhead squats in the WOD I told myself I’d try them but with the lightest barbell.

It was a 15 AMRAP:

6 OHS (35#)

8 Push Presses (35#)

10 Preggo Burpees

I was able to do 8 full rounds with a couple of minutes to spare.

Tonight, I stayed home and did a quick 3 rounds with my 8# dumbbells:

20 biceps curls

25 squats

8 tricep extensions (each arm)

40 side bends

The workout above would be perfect for someone easing their way back to working out. Simple, but effective movements.

I hope to continue feeling better! Please wish me luck 🙂

Here are some Puerto Rico pics:

I know everyone says this, but really, where has the summer gone?! With being semi bed-ridden I feel like I’ve missed out on the last month…but it’s ok, since I’ll be getting a very precious reward in the winter 🙂

I did some dumbbells workouts last week, coached CrossFit on Saturday and then worked out on Sunday (barely). I’m doing lots of arm stuff which should come in handy for carrying a babe and all his stuff!   Stuff that I just added to a few registries this weekend- Pottery Barn Kids, Baby’s R Us, and Amazon. It was pretty exhausting especially since it’s a whole new ball game for me.

Did you guys get some good LDW shopping done? I went to the mall with one very excited soon-to-be grandma who bought lots of cute clothes for baby at Bloomies. I also bought a gorgeous light pink dress from Maje which I might wear to my baby shower (courtesy of Mom) I also bought my Goddaughter Alexia some accessories for her upcoming baptism. Online, I took advantage of Baublebar’s sale and also scored a cute gold, Henri Bendel clutch. It was a successful shopping weekend indeed!

I’m planning to do a light and easy workout tonight at home. My body is feeling very exhausted since I’m now not sleeping very well through the night :/ I caught myself daydreaming about running earlier today. At this point it might not happen until after my delivery, but it’s ok, a girl can daydream!

Did you do a particularly fun or tough workout this weekend? What about shopping- did you score anything great from any of the sales?

Saturday WOD

Another Saturday morning of coaching and today I was able to squeeze in a sweat sesh myself. I modified the workout for myself to be: 4 rounds of: 10 20# dumbbell thrusters 50 mountain climbers 15 ring rows  200 meter farmers carry w/2 20# dumbbells  Those farmers carries were tough at the end. I’m glad I was able to get my 3 days of CrossFit this week. Running has been a little awkward- yesterday I felt tightness in my belly so I walked instead :/ Some weeks are better than others. We just moved into a new house so finding the time to get to the gym has a little tricky. I do what I can and try not to be harsh on myself.  Check back to see my workouts I do while on vacation in Punta Cana next week!
